An oasis of peace situated in the centre of Leiden, approximately 10 minutes by bike from the train station. Kaarsenmakersstraat 7-121 was renovated in 1992. It contains modern housing units with communal amenities. The building is built in a U-shaped plan, with a large inner courtyard. At the back it looks out over a small canal and some trees.

The building is owned by DUWO Leiden. It dates from 1827 and was designed by the municipal master builder Salomon van de Pauw. It is a former old people’s home, also called the 'Minnehuis', and used to be owned by the Reformed Church’s social welfare organisation.
