Hugo de Grootstraat 32 - Horizon House

Originally a pharmaceutical laboratory, Horizon House now houses international students and other short stay tenants.


Built between 1895 and 1907 as a pharmaceutical laboratory. In 2005 the building was completely renovated and made suitable for housing international students and other short stay tenants. Horizon House is owned by DUWO Leiden.


There are 38 single rooms and 2 double rooms with communal amenities. The rooms vary in size and price, but they all have the same kind of furniture. There is a communal room.

The kitchens are shared by a maximum of 9 persons. Basic kitchen utensils (pots, pans, cutlery, plates, glasses) will be provided in the kitchen for shared use.

Showers and toilets
At almost every floor there are 4 showers and 4 toilets available for 10 to 15 students.

There are 11 single apartments and 6 double apartments. Each apartment consists of one room with a kitchen area, and a separate shower/toilet. The bed(s) is (are) placed on a loftlike-area above the kitchen and bathroom. The apartments are furnished and kitchenware is provided.

No smoking
Please bear in mind that all rooms and appartments at Hugo de Grootstraat 32 are non-smoking.

Internet, TV and telephone
There is an internet connection available. This service is provided by Ziggo and is included in the rent. The only thing you need to arrange, is a UTP cable. The TV and telephone connection are also provided by Ziggo. Only the use of the telephone facility is not included in the rent.

There is a laundrette with washing machines and dryers. The use of these are not included in the rent. Washing costs 2,50 euro and drying 1,00 euro. For the payment you can use a Dutch debit card or credit card (VISA or Mastercard).

House rules
House rules apply to this student house. You will receive a copy of these upon arrival.


Please bear in mind that these prices will be raised in in July due to a statutory rent increase and recalculation of the service costs.

At least the above mentioned items should be present in your room. The model of an item may differ from room to room. 

Apartments that have carpet on the floor have a vacuum cleaner included in the inventory. It is prohibited to place extra inventory in your room or anywhere in the building.
