How to apply

Complete housing section on Acceptance of Admission Offer and pay housing fee/deposit

If you are accepted at Leiden University, you will receive an "Acceptance of Admission Offer", which includes a housing section.  If you still want Leiden University to help you find housing please proceed as follows:

  1. Complete the housing section on the Acceptance form and pay the housing deposit by bank transfer or online credit card payment as instructed before the deadlines mentioned at point 4.

    Method of payment housing deposit

By bank transfer to Leiden University’s bank account:
    Rabobank Leiden
    Schipholweg 105
    2316 XC Leiden
    BIC-code: RABONL2U
    IBAN-code: NL95RABO0160632285
    Bank Account: 1606.32.285
Made payable to: Leiden University Finance B.V., Leiden, The Netherlands

Please mention your name, your online application student ID number and the words ‘housing fee’ in the transfer. Any bank charges incurred are the responsibility of the applicant.

The housing deposit can also be paid online with your credit card (except for Japanese cards) by using the secured website Paylogic. At the bottom of the internet page you can change the language. You will receive an E-ticket with a barcode by email. This is your proof of payment.

Please note that the rent, moving- and waiting list fee (short stay) must be paid through a different bank account.

  2. Complete the:

application form for housing in Leiden

application form for the programme Bachelor International Studies

    and email it to housing@leidenuniv.nl

Students for the programme International Bachelor Psychology (IBP) don't have to fill out an application form. IBP students will be automatically allocated a room at a designated location.

You can use this form to submit:

    • the period for which you are requesting housing
    • what type of housing you would prefer (single/shared, and if known, the name of your room mate)
    • the preferred location (1st, 2nd and 3rd choice)
    • the preferred price range

  3. Include proof of payment of the € 500 housing deposit:

    • Student and Educational Affairs pays this amount, which serves as a room deposit, to the Housing Office. It is common practice for housing agents in the Netherlands to request such a deposit, which is usually equal to one month's rent.
    • The € 500 deposit is non-refundable if you cancel your housing request before or after receiving a housing offer. Exceptions can be made in the case of withdrawal, deferral or if the Housing Office is unable to offer you accommodation. Once your contract with the Housing Office has ended and all conditions of your contract have been met, you can request the Housing Office to refund the room deposit
    • If you are a short-stay guest working or studying at Leiden University for two months or less and wish to be placed on the waiting list for housing, you need not pay the € 500 housing deposit. Instead you should pay the waiting list fee of € 100. After you have accepted an offer of accommodation sent to you by the Housing Office you will be requested to pay the first month's rent and contract costs. You can deduct the € 100 from this payment. This rule does not apply to semester students and short-stay guests who will stay longer than two months.

  4. Final check: Make sure your housing deposit is paid (points 1 and 3) and that you have returned the completed application form for housing (point 2) before the deadline:
    • June 1 if starting in August
    • November 15th if starting in January

Leiden University has limited availability of student accommodation. If you pay your deposit before the deadline the Housing Office will guarantee to offer you accommodation but unfortunately cannot guarantee that it will be the housing of your preference. As housing is offered on a first come first served basis we recommend that you take care of your housing request and deposit as early as possible.
